Blender 5.2 LTS

Moray Render

The same film-grade path tracer that powered DreamWorks features — packaged for Blender 5.2. Try free with a watermark. Unlock a clean license when you’re ready for client delivery.

About

Moray is a commercial fork of DreamWorks Animation’s MoonRay, built for artists who need production path tracing inside Blender. Install once, light and lookdev in a progressive viewport, then ship final frames with the depth, materials, and AOV stack VFX pipelines expect. Use it free with a watermark for learning and tests; buy a one-time license for watermark-free output and full production export (Cryptomatte, deep EXR). Ready-to-run builds for macOS, Linux, and Windows — no compiling OpenMoonRay yourself.

Who it's for

Lookdev and lighting artists who want a real film path tracer in Blender; freelancers and studios delivering client work; anyone who outgrew “good enough” default renders and wants MoonRay’s look without a full DCC farm.

Requirements

Blender 5.2.x. macOS Apple Silicon, Linux x86_64, or Windows x86_64. OptiX needs an NVIDIA GPU and current driver; Metal XPU on Apple Silicon (macOS 14+). Enough CPU/RAM for path tracing. Free watermarked renders need no key; license activation needs internet once.

Install

1. Download the free zip for your OS (no account required). 2. Blender → Edit → Preferences → Extensions → Install from Disk → select the zip. 3. Enable Moray / MoonRay. 4. Render Properties → Engine → MoonRay — try free with a watermark. 5. When you’re ready for clean delivery: buy a license → copy your MORAY_ key from Polar (email or customer portal). 6. Paste key → Activate (one seat per machine; internet once). 7. Move seats anytime from the Polar customer portal (CompStart profile → Manage Billing).

License

Moray is free to try with a watermark. A one-time Polar license removes the watermark and unlocks Cryptomatte and deep EXR for production. You’re licensing the Blender product (packaging, builds, activation) — MoonRay’s open-source core remains Apache 2.0. Keys include limited activations; manage them in the Polar customer portal.

FAQ

What is Moray?

Moray is a commercial fork of DreamWorks MoonRay for Blender 5.2 — the same family of film path tracing used on major animated features, packaged so you can install and render without building the renderer yourself.

Is it free?

Yes to try: download and render with a watermark, no key required. Buy a one-time license for clean frames plus Cryptomatte and deep EXR.

Why buy a license?

Clean, watermark-free finals and full production export (Cryptomatte, deep EXR). Ideal when work leaves your machine for clients, reels, or pipeline delivery.

Windows and Linux?

Yes — dedicated zips for macOS Apple Silicon, Linux x86_64, and Windows x86_64. OptiX XPU needs NVIDIA; otherwise MoonRay runs on CPU.

How many machines?

Each paid key includes limited activations (typically 2). Activate where you work; free a seat from Blender or the Polar customer portal when you switch machines.

Where’s my license key?

After purchase, Polar emails it and lists it in the customer portal (CompStart profile → Manage Billing). Keys use a MORAY_ prefix.

I bought on Gumroad before — what now?

New purchases and updates ship through CompStart + Polar. Contact support if you need help migrating an older key.
